Math Slide Show - PowerPoint Lessons
for Math Teachers.
There are countless benefits
to using PowerPoint in the math classroom with students. It
is my intent to create complete sets of PowerPoint math
lessons that will provide teachers with a solid base on
which to build. Here are links to collections of PowerPoint
lessons for math teachers which are written and published by
me, James Wenk, a teacher with 15 years experience currently
in the Capistrano Unified School District of California.
Click on a link below to preview the lessons in each
completed set. Projected completion dates for future
projects are shown below.

Power Warm-ups
A
recent e-mail: Hi, I am wondering if you are going to make new Powerpoints for the new books from McDougal Littell or others? We love your product and might base part of our choice on what you are doing. Thanks Michele.
Response: That is a tremendous compliment. Thanks! My first
priority is always to write to my own classroom needs first, of course.
Unfortunately, my district is going to be a slow one in this process. We have
narrowed it down to four publishers. By the end of the year it will
be between two at each grade level, and then we will pilot these two next year.
We won't be buying books until the year after that, Sept. 2009.
You probably know that Prentice Hall has hardly
changed at all, so it should be easy for me to get those out early...maybe by
this summer. McDougal Littell looks very different...so that could be some work
adapting what I have to the new McDougal Littell. Holt, and Glencoe will also
take some time to put together so I can't make any promises as to when those
will all come out either. My plans to work on Geometry PowerPoints have been
pushed back for a few years because of this state adoption.
I am currently working on something that I think
will make a tremendous difference for my students performance on the STAR test,
and will soon be available to you and others. I am in the process of writing a
collection of 130 transparencies with five STAR aligned questions each, which I
am calling Star Power Warm-ups. That's a total of 650 questions that
are proportionally aligned to the California state blueprints for the STAR test. I have
attached a sample for your review. The stars next to each question refer
not its difficulty but to how many times that question type and standard will appear
on the STAR test based on the STAR blueprints. By the end of this 130 day
review students will have taken the STAR test an equivalent of 10 times. This
collection should be available for 7th grade by June and Algebra 1 by the end of
this summer.
My plans for the next few years
are....
1) Complete Star Power Warm-ups for 7th
grade and Algebra (Now until Summer 2008)
2) Align PowerPoints to new California publishers
for 6th, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra (Summer 2008 to Summer 2009)
3) Begin work on Geometry PowerPoints (Summer 2009
to ?)
Thanks for your support and interest in my
products. Should you think of anything that could help you in the future or if
you find out what textbooks your district will be adopting, I would love to hear
about it.
